"Two and a Half Men" star Charlie Sheen might owe some women an explanation in light of his recent HIV bombshell, but Jenny McCarthy isn't one of them.
The 50-year-old actor went on the defensive after McCarthy, who appeared on the hit sitcom as Sheen's love interest between 2007 and 2011, slammed him for not disclosing his condition to onscreen romantic partners prior to Tuesday's "Today" interview.
"Charlie was infected long after he left 'Two and a Half Men' and long after he worked with Jenny," the actor's rep told People magazine on Wednesday.
McCarthy, a self-proclaimed "STD-phobic," had earlier blasted the Hollywood heavyweight's belated revelation, citing the mandatory disclosure of cold sores during her own acting gigs.
"If I have to be up-front about a herpe, how could you not be up-front about HIV?" she said on her SiriusXM radio show, "Dirty, Sexy, Funny." "I look back and I'm like, 'OK, that would've been some valuable information.' I mean, look how many people have played his love interest on the show."
"Not that you can obviously get it through kissing, but still," she added. "That's a big deal."
The virus, while sexually transmitted, can in incredibly rare cases be spread via "deep, open-mouth kissing" if HIV-infected blood from sores or bleeding gums is exchanged, according to AIDS.gov.
